Principal’s MessageDear Parents/Carers
I am so proud to have started my new role as Principal of Sir John Hunt Community Sports College and I look forward to working with students and families to ensure that our young people have the best life chances.
I would very much like to thank all parents/carers for ensuring that students are in the correct uniform; they do look incredibly smart and ready for learning.
My reflections on the start of term:
Year 7 students seem to have settled well and the fears of getting lost have evaporated as they now seem confident walking around the College. There is an opportunity for Year 7 parents to meet their child’s tutor on 27th September, if there are any questions or concerns.
Year 8 seem to have shot up over the summer break and they were a fantastic help in our incredibly busy open evening last week.
I met with Year 9s in assembly last week and showed them that they have one hundred and ten school weeks until their first GCSE Exams! They must make the most of every second as they launch into their GCSE courses.
Year 10 should take full advantage of our careers fair in October to really focus on their next steps and to ensure that they are fully aware of the progression routes available.
Year 11 have everything to prove, I have challenged them to achieve the best GCSE results ever. I know they love a challenge and we will support them all the way.
Our Sixth Form will be busy with university open days and UCAS applications over the coming weeks and months and it is exciting to consider the opportunities which lie ahead.
One of our College priorities this year is to work more closely with parents-carers to support students’ learning. Please look out for activities and events throughout the year and I would welcome any suggestions on how we can support your child’s learning.
I am looking forward to a busy term with lots of learning and enrichment opportunities for our students to enjoy.
