Nature Themed Computing Lesson A Hit!On Wednesday 22nd February a group of students from Oakwood Primary took part in a nature themed computing lesson. Students were tasked with programming a game using the Scratch programming language, that would have a moveable character collect or eat items it finds on the screen.
During the session the students learned how to create sprites (computer game characters), make a sprite move using keyboard controls and how to collect items that could be eaten. The group worked so well, they were also able to include a scoring system to count how many of the items their characters managed to eat. In learning how to create the game, the students were introduced to several key components of programming, including algorithms, selection, variables, and iteration.
