Year 9 Football Win

Year 9 Football Win!

Our Year 9 football team is up and running having played two games in the last fortnight. The first game was a true baptism of fire suffering a 6-0 home defeat at the hands of Heles. Though we lost heavily the score didn’t show the tremendous effort the boys put in and they still walked away with heart and a great deal of encouragement.

The second game was a vast improvement and saw SJH host Stoke Damerel Community College. The team started well but SDCC took the lead. It didn’t take long until SJH equalised with Brodie Spanton slotting home after good work in midfield. By half time though SDCC had scored twice meaning there was work to be done in the second half. In freezing conditions SJH showed spirit and teamwork and after an excellent corner, Owen Nicholls half volleyed into the top corner. As the game went on SJH pressed for a winner and it was Fletcher Hurrell who scored a fabulous goal from angle and distance into the bottom corner. A great result and overall performance, 3-2 to SJH.

Well done Year 9’s!
