Active AdventuresDuring the week, students took part in a wide range of adventurous activities, which challenged everyone in terms of their abilities, fitness and in some cases, facing their fears. We began at the Mount Batten Centre, with a day of stand up paddle boarding, where students first had a go individually and then working in teams of eight, racing against each other around the harbour. In the afternoon students took to the water again, this time in two person kayaks, where they practiced their paddling skills further as well as attempting a raft run.
On Tuesday we visited Tamar Trails where students faced their biggest challenge, climbing up a twenty metre tree and jumping off (attached to a safety wire). Students also got to fly down a giant zip wire, hone their archery skills and in the afternoon tackle the high ropes course in the tree tops. This involved making their way around obstacle courses high up in the canopy of the surrounding woods.
Wednesday took us to Bristol Science Centre, where students could get hands on with state of the art interactive science exhibits, as well as have a tour around the galaxy in the UK’s biggest 3D planetarium. Thursday and Friday further tested student’s skills and fitness, mountain biking around Haldon Forest on purpose built trails and skills courses, followed by a more relaxed ride around Plymbridge Woods, bringing a very active and enjoyable week to an end.
