Students Explore Submarines with Babcock

Students Explore Submarines with Babcock

To mark the beginning of Science Week at SJH, Babcock came in to deliver some sessions to KS3 and KS4 students on submarines and careers in STEM subjects.

Two Year 7, two Year 8 and two Year 10 classes got to participate in this event. The students spent half of the lesson learning about the parts of a submarine, how they float and submerge and how nuclear reactors work. They spent the second half of the lesson learning about how they can follow a career in STEM and the different career paths they can take. The students got to use Babcocks specialist equipment and watch demonstrations from experts to help further their understanding of submarines.

Submarine Working Model

The students showed exemplary behaviour throughout and were a credit to the College, impressing Babcock with their scientific thinking and ability to apply their knowledge to new situations. Thank you to the science department in helping to facilitate the event and to Babcock for giving up a day to come and support our students in their learning. It was a great start to Science Week.
