Leaf LitterCentipedes, spiders, mites, woodlice, false scorpions are just some of the amazing invertebrates discovered by an equally amazing band of Year 5 biologists, who have visited from Beechwood Primary School.
The students were fascinated with the diversity and wealth of life to be discovered in a bag of dead leaves. A food chain was built up to reveal the complexity of this hidden world.
Students thoroughly enjoyed the chance to rummage through leaves using magnifying glasses and tweezers to find the different creatures. They also had the chance to look at pond water under microscopes to see the different kind of algae, water flies and other insects that exist. One student said:
"I was amazed at how I could see all the different body parts of the insect under the magnifying glass".
