Outdoor and Adventurous Activities

This week saw a new set of brave Year 7’s experience what outdoor adventurous activities has to offer. It was time for the lake jump on Bodmin moor and with a 25 minute walk to the quarry where the lake jump takes place, students were anxious but excited about what to expect. When we reached our destination there was a few nervy looking faces as everyone looked around at the different jumps, however eager to jump straight in. With everyone starting small, some began to feel very brave and confident and go for the bigger jumps. Overall, students shown great resilience to overcome their fear of heights and could not stop jumping in! A big well done to everyone.

This week marked the end of the first cohort of Year 7’s to pass their Level 2 bikeability. From Level 1 to Level 2 we were able to see an increase in confidence from all students who go from cycling in an enclosed environment, to out on the roads with live traffic. This is a real test of concentration in which the students have to be alert of what’s around them at all times. After learning techniques such as, U turns, moving around parked cars and junctions, it’s great to see our first group passing and already looking forward to Level 3 in Year 8.

Lunchtime Activities

Lunchtime activities continue every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday as a drop in and play for Year 7’s and 8’s. We are based outside the Learning Recovery centre and all are welcome. We have swing ball and team building activities available, so come along and join in.
