Enrichment Week – Horse RidingWe took a group of 14 students who varied from beginners to slightly more experienced riders to Wembury Bay Riding School. Each day consisted of different activities. Day one started with an assessment lesson followed by feeding rules. After lunch, students went out on a hack around Wembury and ended the day with duties around the yard.
The week was full of different activities including a handy pony competition - where ponies had to be negotiated around an obstacle course in the fastest time and a gymkhana - where students became incredibly competitive to win different races. Students were given the opportunity to learn how to jump. Some students progressed quickly and were jumping confidently, which impressed not only us, but the instructors too.
On the final day, the ponies were painted, groomed and plaited ready for the show where ponies and riders were entered into different classes such as: best turned out and softest carrot eater. A presentation followed where students were awarded rosettes for their performances throughout the week.
All students (and staff) had a fantastic week. The progress that each student made was incredible. They are already booking in to go back for the weekend club at the stables (with the vouchers that they were given).
