Dissections in ScienceI have recently demonstrated rat dissections to Mr Gardiner’s Sixth Form and Year 7 teaching groups. The rats used in the demonstrations were lab rats that were bred specifically for educational purposes.
The rat, like humans, is a placental mammal. As such many of its internal organs and structures are very similar to our own. This means when teaching physiology the rat is very useful in helping us to understand how our body systems work.
Feedback from the students who watched the demonstrations was very positive, with the majority saying that the dissections had enhanced their learning experience.
