Crystal Chemistry Creation

Crystal Chemistry Creation

During our final session of unit 2 in Post-16 training in lab skills, we took inspiration from Johann Rudolf Glauber and made a crystal garden. We prepared saturated solutions of various transition metal salts; on cooling these produced large crystals. We then planted these in a tank filled with dilute sodium silicate which encouraged crystal growth. If you want to see for yourself, pop along to the preparation laboratory.
